Need for IT security pros reaches record levels - The need for IT security professionals is at an all-time high, it has been claimed.

A survey of 2,256 people training in computer security found that 96 percent are in full-time employment. This is despite an increased number of lay offs in the sector due to the current gloomy economic climate.

Salaries in the industry are also performing well with the average IT security specialist now taking home record salaries.

Richard Nealon, member of the (ISC) 2 board of directors, told Computer World UK: "We are seeing full employment and growth going forward. There need to be enough people coming into the industry to meet that growth. ”

Last month Janco’s IT salaries survey found that most companies in the United States see IT security as an area where greater staffing levels will be needed in the future and actively attempt to recruit programming professionals and internet specialists.

One of the bright spots during the past few years has been government employment. That seems to be coming to an end with the proposed 2013 federal budget. The current administration proposed a decrease in federal IT spending in 2013, the budget calls for spending $78.8 billion, a 1.2 percent decrease from 2012.

Layoffs abound and there no longer is robust hiring trend for IT Professionals - the economy is slowing. However, there are a number of jobs unfilled by IT Pros. The primary culprit is the lack of qualified individuals to fill the open positions. In our opinion, the IT Job Market is currently at no growth!

There was a major pullback of the number of excess jobs for IT Pros - layoffs have impact on number of unfilled jobs available for IT Professionals.

Janco’s findings are validated by the latest BLS data which shows there was a net increase of IT jobs in January. All sectors of the IT job market showed an improvement - computer system design and related services accounted for 34,200 jobs, telecommunications 10,200 jobs, data processing hosting 2,200 jobs and other information services 900 jobs.
