As you know the several months have been very hectic. In the process of creating bail-out legislation it seems that congress has added some new burdens on enterprises that are impacted by the new laws. These laws, like Sarbanes-Oxley, only re-enforce the requirement to have a sound IT Infrastructure which can adapt to the rapidly changing business climate. The question that we all have to ask is are we really ready.
This along with the recent hurricanes show risks that enterprises of all sizes face:
- 34 percent of companies took more than a day to recover after the hurricane.
- 10 percent of companies took more than a week.
- It took many firms up to 48 hours to reconfigure their networks.
- Many are taking days or weeks to re-enter lost data.
- 90 percent of companies that have experience a computer disaster and do not have a survival plan go out of business within 18 months.
With the explosion of technology into every facet of the day-to-day business environment there is a need to define an effective infrastructure to support operating environment; have a strategy for the deployment and technology; and clearly define responsibilities and accountabilities for the use and application of technology.
The client/server model has become one of the central concepts used in network computing. In marketing, the term Client Server has been used to distinguish distributed computing by smaller dispersed computers from the "monolithic" centralized computing of mainframe computers. But this distinction has largely disappeared as mainframes and their applications have also turned to the client/server model and become part of network computing.
